The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is a magnificent and challenging odyssey in the core of the Kanchenjunga Himalayas region that enchants you with natural glory, cultural diversity, and thrilling adventures. This lesser-known gem is the most remote one among Nepal’s many popular trekking routes; however, it reconnects you with nature and inspires you to embrace the spiritual serenity of the towering mountains, as the trek encircles Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586 m), the third highest peak on earth, located in the far eastern part of Nepal, near the border with Sikkim.

The key features of the trek, such as winding rivers, green meadows, rhododendrons, pine and birch forests, waterfalls, and crystal-clear glaciers, will stir your feelings. Among numerous glaciers, the pristine set of five glacier systems flows towards Sikkim, including Taulung, Rathong, and Zumu. Besides these, the sparkling Kanchenjunga and Yalung glaciers run into the Tamor River of Nepal. Outside the scope of its natural wonders, the region is a mosaic of cultural diversity. You can explore the unique Himalayan lifestyle of Tibetan communities while traversing several settlements like Ghunsa, where numerous centuries-old monasteries, chortens, and mani walls offer more knowledge about prehistory. Most of the region is influenced by Tibetan Buddhism, and for peace of mind and heart, you can meditate in Ramtang and Oktang Monasteries after exhausting walks.

Trekkers may encounter rare flora and fauna, such as snow leopards, Himalayan tahr, musk deer, black bears, red pandas, wild boars, rhododendrons, oak, and bamboo, as you pass through Kanchenjunga National Park. This less-traversed area in the eastern mountainous region of Nepal was closed to trekkers until the mid-1980s; these days, the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area is protecting this alpine highland and its glamour. Therefore, you need a permit to enter the region of Kanchenjunga.

The journey that depends on the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trekking itinerary begins with a scenic flight to Bhadrapur and heads towards Taplejung by Jeep. However, the trek officially starts as you hike to Sekathum after a road ride for 4-5 hours from Taplejung. Afterward, you eventually reach Khambachen for acclimatization as you pass through villages like Amjilosa and Ghunsa. It is an ideal hub for the stop after tiring hiking, where you can encounter typical traditional Tibetan civilization.

The next destination is Lhonak after enjoying valuable moments in the serene atmosphere of Khambachen, adding to it a short hike to gorgeous vantage points, glaciers, and dazzling lakes. After this, the most-awaited trek to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp (5143 m) offers unprecedented experiences as you stand on the base of the 3rd highest peak, framed by mountains like Kanchenjunga, Mt. Everest, Yalung Kang, Jannu, Makalu, etc. After returning to Lhonak, you prepare to descend gradually toward Ghunsa the next morning. Further ahead, it’s the perfect opportunity to reach Sele Le Base Camp for panoramic views of the surrounding towering peaks and giant hills.

Next, you walk to Tseram, traversing passes: Sinion La Pass (4440 m) and Migi La Pass, including Sinelapche Bhanjyang. From here, you navigate downward to Tortong and Yamphuding, crossing Sinuwa Khola and Amji Khola, respectively. Then, leaving a breathtaking environment, you move towards Kanyam, with a mesmerizing road ride experience along wonderful settlements and woodlands. The place is popular for its gorgeous tea land, where you can do some photo sessions and check into comfortable hotels of your choice, as it’s an urban area. The thrilling drive of approximately 3-4 hours takes you to Bhadrapur Airport to return to Kathmandu by air. Remembering all the adventures in the Eastern Himalayan region, you reach the capital city and our official will transfer you to the hotel.

In conclusion, Spanning over 19 days is not only about conquering physical challenges; it also takes you to a paradise with warm hospitality in teahouses and rich cultural heritage. If you seek solitude in the Himalayas or a deeper connection to nature, this trek promises memories once in a lifetime. At Nepal Adventure Trip Pvt.
